I’m sure by now that it’s more than obvious that Rice Village is one my favorite go-to places to shop! Nontheless, there are some stores that I frequent more than others, one of them being Grace Anna’s. I love this store- not only is it huge- but they have tons of stuff ranging from kitchen towels with super cute quotes, to the mos comfy socks ever. In addition, the store is full of fab clothes perfect for grabbing a last minute outfit! I have tried many times to leave this store without buying anything- but always fail. This time, I just had to grab these cute little “Hello Summer” cups that were less than $15!

Can we talk about their clothes for a second? As stated before, I have come here so many times for a quick outfit! By quick I mean a dress, a romper, or a cute pair of shirts! I am always able to find something far from ordinary and love how they have so much print! Being a neutral gal, this store always makes my buy stuff I otherwise wouldn’t. I bought the shorts photoed above recently (in addition to the cups, lol), and can’t wait to wear them again! The print is neutral enough to match other colors, but can also be kept simple with minimal accessories!

Grace Anna’s is obviously a one stop shop for many reasons- as I’ve clearly explained (ha!). If you’re in the Rice Village area (Houston, of course!), I strongly suggest you make a pit stop by there soon! You could either leave out with a beach bag, a coffee mug, a new wardrobe- or anything in between. Either way, I promise you won’t be disappointed!

Until Next Time!

Happy Wednesday! This week’s weekly inspiration comes from Ephesians 1:18-

“I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called- his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance.”

I love this verse! It’s such a reminder of all of the good things in life. So many times it’s so easy to get caught up in the stressful work week, that tough situation with a family member, or even just get tired from “life”. With (only) 24 hours in a day, it’s easy to get overwhelmed and forget that there are so many good things to come. No matter how stressful your day, week, or month might seem- remember that you have a “rich & glorious inheritance” coming! Even if it feels like your days are getting more & more filled with things to do or it’s harder & harder to wake up in the morning. If you’re awake (& reading this), then God still has something fab planned for you. Keep on movin’ on! Have a great rest of the week!

P.S.- Outfit deets can be found here!

Until Next Time!-B

This weeks #BossBabe is hands down probably one of sweetest, most genuine people I know- Stephanie Annor! I met Steph through my H6 fam, my weekly group at the church I go to, Hope City! Stephanie recently left us as she started her new adventure in Oklahoma City, where she will be for the next couple of years to complete her residency. In this interview, Steph tells us her reasons for choosing the medical field as well as all the advice she would give to someone starting out in their career!

Tell me a little about yourself. Where did you grown up, get your degree in etc? What is your current job?

My name is Stephanie Yaa Annor and I am 27 years old. Born and raised in Houston Texas shortly after my parents emigrated* from Ghana. I just graduated medical school and most very recently moved to Oklahoma City to complete my medical residency training in Pediatrics! Additionally, I love to travel (15 countries and counting!). Whether it is a drive to San Antonio or a flight to Thailand, traveling is my favorite interest when I have time off.

What made you decide to start your career?

Ever since I could remember, I’ve always wanted to be a physician. My mom was the initial and one of many people to start my journey to medicine. She is a Licensed Vocational Nurse and seeing her peruse a different career from my dad’s business sparked a constant intrigue and shadowing to follow her & more women in the health care field. Plus, I am very much a people person-so what better way to get to know and RESPECT people’s most intimate parts of their lives than to nurture them to be the best version they can be.

Yes-the path to medicine is a very long but a greatly rewarding mission.

It starts with completion of college, acceptance and completion of medical school and lastly acceptance and completion of post graduate training (residency) of your chosen specialty. Furthermore, you can continue to specialize in your specialty called fellowship. So, my specialty is Pediatrics & after 3 years I will be able to treat children from birth to 18 yrs in a wide variety. However, I can complete fellowship a focus on certain fields whether by age range organ system or acuity in Pediatrics (Neonates, Adolescents, Cardiology, Emergency medicine, etc.).

What inspires you on a daily basis?

God’s UNFAILING Love. God is real & he is apart of my life every single day, in every single way. I praise him, I lean on him when I don’t understand, he is my strength that gives me joy to live is insignificant time we have on this earth.

But, my family, friends, and church are my biggest support systems. They make me want to continue to make them proud! I appreciate them soooo much.

What is your favorite bible verse & why?

This is hard! There’s sooo many! Can I cheat?  These verses comforts me with peace in the present, faith in what doesn’t make sense, hope for the future, and the strength to express love and joy:

“And we know that for those who love God ALL things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.”- Romans 8:28 ESV

“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He RESTORES my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.”- Psalms 23:1-3 ESV

“I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you WILL have tribulation. BUT TAKE HEART; I have overcome the world.””- John 16:33 ESV

“but they who WAIT for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”- Isaiah 40:31 ESV

“For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”- Romans 8:38-39 ESV

“Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces ENDURANCE, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope,”- Romans 5:3-4 ESV

“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”- Hebrews 11:1 ESV

What’s something you would tell your 20-year-old self?

Keep doing you! Don’t change for anybody, you are exactly the way you need to be. Stay on your grind. And treat yo self!

What is your end goal with your career? What do you want to accomplish?

Ultimately my end goal is to have my work be my praise and be fruitful! Whether working in an academic institution, opening my own practice or providing medical care overseas, I want everyday to be another opportunity to serve. My career is a tool to PRUNE, sanctify, and humble me.

But more specifically, I do favor adolescents, (our future world-changers!) so I see myself healing hands and encouraging that age group.

What are the 3 most important things you would tell someone starting off in their career?

  1. Trust the process! Let everything soak in, every praise, every criticism, every job offer, networking, letter of acceptance/denial. Know that in everything it will work out in due time.
  2. Humility will take you far! When you die (sorry for getting cryptic lol) your money, accolades, prestige don’t go with you! In everything, be humble and people in your career will see your character!
  3. Always keep learning, don’t settle for complacency when you feel like you have, “made it.” Everything is an opportunity to learn something new, ask questions and make change.

What is your favorite thing to do regarding your field?

Learning about people’s lives. Every day I get the chance to tap into their daily lives to encourage and keep people on track physically, mentally, socially, spiritually.

What is your least favorite?

The dark side of medicine is real. The side where doctors forget the reason they chose this field or regret the investment made. The depression that uninvitedly creeps in as early a medical school. The administrative side of medicine that distances the patient interactions.

What has been the most surprising challenge within your field?

Probably balance. Life outside the hospital and my patients, keeping up with family and friends, proper sleep hygiene and lifestyle living! It’s not hard but you have to proactively be present in what’s important to you. And as seasons change certain things may take priority, but I have to continue to remind myself what is the world like outside of what’s in front of me daily.

Until Next Time!

Happy Wednesday! This week’s weekly inspiration comes from Matthew 6:33-

“But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

I remember when I first graduated college & thought I had it all figured out. I had been offered my dream job before I graduated & was moving to finallyyyy be near my grandpa after waiting over 10 years. Finally- life was making sense. I was going “home”. Flash forward 4 years, and here I am sitting in Houston- with  a completely different job, my closest family 4 hours away, and a dog. Like- WHAT?! Yeah, totally different than I planned. And I am the happiest I’ve ever been!

LOL at my “Dream Job” . My dream job and plan for my life were nothing compared to what God has blessed me with today. If I wouldn’t of been okay with the uncertainty and confusion of Gods plan vs my own- who knows where I would be.

When I graduated college I loved God and knew that he has a plan- but I totally wanted to try my plan first! I mean, my plan made sense too- so why not? I told God that I would try my plan out and see how it goes. So that’s what I did. I had my “Dream” (or so I thought) job, and loved it for about a few months. Then I hated it. I moved into the cutest little condo with a cute porch, a minutes walk from a starbucks, and a cobblestone road (it was adorbs, ya’ll!). I filled my closet with all my favorite brands, decorated to the T & was still lonely. I was bored. All the perfectness I had created was my plan- and it was not working. Fast forward to now- I have a job that I am obsessed with, am back in Houston, have a great church Family &  little fur baby. On top of that- I am beyond happy.  Although it might not make sense- this is clearly God’s plan. I chased my own dreams first and they weren’t enough. Chasing God’s plan for your life is so much better.

This week- my challenge for you is so simple, yet so hard. This week- pray that God will show you his plan for you. Not your 5 year plan, not your 10 year goals. His plan. His entire, confusing, no sense making plan. I promise, it’s so much better than your own!

Until Next Time!

I found these floral pants over at Target a few months ago and loved them! I loved them so much I actually went to 3 stores to find my size, then had to end up ordering them online just to make sure that I had them. I am sooo glad that I did- they’re comfy enough for work and cute enough for brunch all in one (a total win-win in  my eyes)! Being someone that normally likes neutrals, these again were sort of a reach item for me. On top of that- they’re floral and I just DON’T do florals. But again- I love them!

When I actually do wear prints, I always try to balance them with a neutral. For this look, I paired one of my tops that I picked up at Urban Outfitters recently. I love this top (more about that here) and actually have it in a few colors. I always try to pair neutrals with prints in  way to sort of balance my outfit out. Since these pants are so bold, I also opted to not wear many accessories as well. Keeping it simple with only a watch or my go-to necklace is always one of my top choices when getting dressed in the morning!

I wore these shoes in an outfit post previously & have worn them about once a week ever since getting them! They look really uncomfortable- but I promise I can wear them all day no problem! I can’t find these exact ones online- but I linked some similar items that are all great deals! Besides, nothing (absolutely nothing!) is more perfect than a pair of fabulous heels!

Until Next Time!
