Okay- so we all know comfort is totally my thing. Most days, I can be caught wearing something casual and dressing it up in the easiest way possible! This look is no different- this shirt is pretty much like wearing a big sleep shirt all day! It’s super simple but can be easily dressed up as well. Perfect for running errands, or even a quick lunch with the girls- this look is def one that I wear often.

For this look I went to my go-to over-the-knee suede boots & a waist wrap. Perfect for me, I’m always cold so tying a long shirt tee around my waist always comes in handy. Accessories for this look were minimal (as always), again keeping it simple.  A watch for me is a must & I am almost always wearing a pair of studs. This is one of my fav looks for “Houston Fall” aka not cold at all but late enough in the year that I can pretend it’s cold outside by wearing boots (haha!).

As much as I complain about the “fall” here in Houston, I secretly love it. The only thing I wish we had was snow- the holidays just don’t seem the same without it. Also- I wish that the leaves changed colors faster. At least that way, I could “pretend” that winter was coming. Anyways- none of that really happens here in Houston, so I will just have to continue pretending.

One thing I do love, though, is that since I don’t wear my boots as often- they last forever! That  doesn’t stop me from getting new ones though, especially when they are on sale! I have rounded up my current fav boots all under $100 below. Even if you currently don’t need any- Christmas is right around the corner and I’m sure someone does!

Until Next Time!

Happy Wednesday- This weeks weekly inspiration comes from Psalm 34:10-

“The lions may grow weak and hungry, but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.”

Whew- this week has flown by so quickly. It seems like it was just yesterday it was January & I was getting ready for all the things I expected 2017 to bring. I was so excited about the year starting- I had all of my plans written down in the order I wanted them. My monthly goals were aligned with my weekly goals- all 52 in total! Well, I can say that it is November & I am exhausted! Although I have completed most of my goals (for sure not all of them), I am determined to finish out the year strong. Tired or not, I know that everything will work out for good. We will never lack “any good things”. What’s meant for us is for us & what’s meant to be will always come to pass!

Psalms 34:10 reminds us that no matter how weary we get, God has always got us! It’s easy to look back on the year, being happy about all of the things we have accomplished so far but also about all the  things we still have to do. Looking at our list of things yet to be done with only a few weeks left can be so stressful, I get tired just thinking about it. This verse is my simple reminder that as long as we have God with us, we can accomplish anything! This week my challenge for you is to celebrate not how tired you are, but all of the amazing things you have accomplished so far. God has already done so many good things for you in 2017, and God is not even done with the year it!

Until Next Time!

Hello! I am back from traveling for work all last week. I went to the Big Apple (so much YASS), so took a break from ze blog for the week. It was so nice in New York, but I am just not a cold weather girl anymore. I was ready to be back in the H with my dog, my Starbucks & 70 degrees.

Semi Side Note: So many of you ask why I don’t blog when I am on my work trips & my response is simple- I’m working! I love my job just as much as I love my blog but don’t mix the two for many reasons. Both deserve their own attention, so I plan on keeping it that way.

As beautiful as it was in NY, I was actually happy to come back home! It was cold enough to wear my favorite boots, as well as some fur (again- YAS), but the weather here in Houston is currently beautiful! It’s not cold & not hot, but just somewhere in between. Basically, the weather is perfect.

This week, I totally plan on bringing out some of my go-to sweaters, just for the fun of it. This one is for sure one of my favs, from one my favorite online boutiques. I added it with a denim dress, because that’s what you do in weather like this- mix sweaters & dresses!

This dress I’ve had for a while- it really casual so I kind of keep it that way. I don’t ever wear it with heels & always keep it simple with flats or kicks. This look is perfect for a casual day, or even running errands. Speaking of errands, Thanksgiving literally came so soon! I can’t believe it is already towards the end of 2017! The days, weeks & months seem to go by faster and faster. I was always told this, but now it seems like a true statement! Basically what I’m trying to say is that this year is almost over ya’ll (OMG)! Cray-Cray!

Until Next Time!

The fact that it’s October & I can wear this is partially okay, partially not (LOL). It’s still not cold enough in the H to wear suede boots, but I’m okay with that if it means I get to wear my favorite dresses a little longer. I found this shirtdress over at Nordstroms a little while ago and have lived in it ever since. Okay- bad news first: this particular style is currently not available, but I linked some similar styles below. Drum roll for the good- Nordstroms is offering 40% off for the next week, so my entire look is on super sale!

This shirtdress is the perfect length for the office and is a super easy  switch from day to night just by switching shoes! I love simple yet fab pieces like this, it makes getting dressed in the morning so much easier! This dress doesn’t take much to look amazing on anyone and like I said, can be switched up too. For the  day time, you can wear this look with booties as I did. For night, switch to some pumps, or even some full boots & you are good to go. P.S.- Did I mention dresses like this are (for obvious reasons) my go to?!

Did I mention the weather? As much as I say I’m happy I can still currently wear this look (which I am), I still miss the North during the holidays and winter. There’s nothing like a true Autumn- Thanksgiving is just not the same when you can wear shorts outside and don’t need a sweater on (insert sad face emoji here).

I can deal with not having snow, but there’t just something about “winter” that I will always miss living in the H. For now, my pretending it’s cold outside will just have to do.

Until Next Time!

When I shot with Henrietta a few weeks ago, I just knew I had to feature her on the blog! Not only does she do amazing photography- she is also 23 and is currently perusing her PhD (Talk about goals!). Henrietta recently moved here from New Jersey and has continued her photography as her side biz while she is in school. She gave me all the deets on not only why she started photography in the first place, but also her least favorite things about what she does!

Tell me a little about yourself. Where did you grown up, get your degree in etc? What is your current job?

I’m Henrietta. I grew up in Nigeria but moved to New Jersey 9 years ago for school. I got my Bachelors in Marketing and Management from Seton Hall University & my MBA from Stevens Institute of Technology, both in New Jersey. I’ve just started my PhD in Political Science at University of Houston so that’s my full-time gig but, I still make time to be a fashion & lifestyle photographer.

What made you decide to start your career?

When I moved from Nigeria to a boarding school in Pennsylvania, I started my junior year in high school not knowing anyone and being the introverted “new girl”,  so I joined the yearbook committee and was assigned to take the photos. Several people loved their photos and I got wonderful feedback so I asked for a digital camera for my 17th birthday and I’ve been on a roll ever since. & no, I did not get any formal training in photography.

What inspires you on a daily basis?

People. I love photography so much because it not only allows me to express my creative side but also meet some extraordinary individuals that inspire me every day.

What is your favorite bible verse & why?

Deuteronomy 31:6. In a world where relationships & friendships can be so temporary and fleeting and sometimes, especially as a young person, it is difficult to see what is coming next (like my moving to Houston for example).  It gives me great peace to know that God remains steadfast, no matter what. Even if everyone in my life disappoints me and no matter where life takes me, He will neither leave me nor abandon me to figure it out on my own.  He’s always there.

What’s something you would tell your 20-year-old self?

Know your worth and learn how to say no.

What is your end goal with your career? What do you want to accomplish?

In terms of photography, I would like to shoot for high fashion magazines and luxury brands but also expand into video production and editorial work.

P.S.- I shot recently with Henrietta for a campaign I had with HEB

What are the 3 most important things you would tell someone starting off in their career?

  1. Don’t let the “no”s get you down. Someone will say yes and appreciate your work.
  2.  Bring your A-game at every opportunity, from major clients to those just starting out. You never know whom someone knows.
  3. Don’t try to be like everyone else. Stick to your aesthetic and trust yourself.

What is your favorite thing to do regarding your field?

In terms of photography, I love the end. I still get like a flutter in my stomach when someone says they loved their images. I really hope that never changes.

What is your least favorite?

Sometimes, shooting can be stressful. I’ve shot in both >100 degree & 18 degree weather and it can honestly be super stressful and hard.

What has been the most surprising challenge within your field?

I can be very shy so reaching out had been a challenge but doing so, thus far, has been so rewarding.

Until Next Time!
