Fall family photos are some of my favorite family pictures those done! The weather is perfect for outside photos, with the leaves changing to vibrant colors and (depending on where you live) breezy fresh air. Fall family photos are great since can be more neutral, so can be used for all types of things like cards, and photos for around the house. Today, I am sharing a roundup of outfit ideas that you and your family can wear for photos during this fall season.

In this post, I will share some outfit idea themes to wear during a family photo. I have included some affiliate links to outfits, but most of these ideas can be recreated from things you might already have in your closet for your next family photo session!
What colors to wear for fall family photos
For fall family photos, I like keeping the same color palette for each person, so the outfits all go together but do not match exactly 100% in the photo shoot. Some great color palettes to wear for family photos include neutrals like brown, creams and white, and even some other colors like dark red, navy or green. These colors look great against fall foliage and are great pops of color that aren’t too busy with a fall background.
Brown
Shades of brown are my favorite colors to wear for fall photos for obvious reasons! Not only are they are perfect neutrals, but also I feel it makes the photos look classy and “cozy”. Black
Black is a great color to wear for family photos that are a little more classy or dressy! Wearing black looks especially chic when some of the photos are done in black and white too. To add some color to these photos, dress the kids in something with a print or pattern.
Navy
If you want to stand out a little bit more vs just wearing black, navy is a great option! This neutral palette is great to wear when you are last minute planning and need to find something you might already have in your closet, such as dark jeans.
Creams with gold
Creams with gold are a great color palette is you want the photos to feel light & airy. This color palette of light colors is especially pretty if you keep the gold pieces flowy, like with a gold dress or skirt.
Maroon or burgundy
Maroon on burgundy are both great fall colors to wear for fall photos as it really compliments the fall season. To not have too much color, you can mix maroon or burgundy pieces with other neutral colors such as brown and tan.

Dressing for fall family photos is easy & doesn’t have to be complicated. Sharing some tips below to help you and your family feel picture perfect.
Coordinate colors, not outfits
One of my favorite rules to stick by when coordinating fall family photos is to make sure the family members in the photos are coordinated, but not matching completely. I like to ensure everyone is wearing complimenting outfits, being sure to mix and match colors.
Pick some patterned pieces
An easy way to coordinate outfits is to put the littles (or yourself) in something patterned, like a floral print or a plaid. This adds some print to your photos without being overwhelming or busy.
Keep outfits simple
Fall family photos in my opinion should feel cozy, so keeping the outfits simple helps ensure the focus stays on your beautiful family and not the outfits. You can of course make the photos more elevated by adding chunky knits and textured pieces like leather boots to some of the outfits.

All black with some patterns
All black is always a great color palette option for family photos! For this outfit idea, I added some print by incorporating a plaid print mixed with some whimsical pieces for the little girls outfit. Shades of brown for family photos are always a great option! These outfit ideas can easily be recreated from pieces you already have in your closet and are easy to do! For different shades, think cozy knits, tan colors and fall boots.
Cream & gold neutral family photos
Cream and gold family photos are great light colors to wear if you want your family photos to feel a little elevated. For this outfit idea, I added a flowy gold maxi skirt and a neutral sweater for the mom, and then added a floral print dress for the little girls outfit.
