I love a good routine to start my day off right. Starting my day off right is more than just waking up and starting the many “to-dos” in my head and grabbing coffee. Having a consistent morning routine (for me) helps set the tone for my day, boosts my energy and ensures that I am productive. I love having a routine that is easy so that I don’t overcommit my time, but also effective in getting my day started off positive. Sharing below a morning routine checklist that you can use as you create your own morning routine.

Morning Routine Checklist
What is a morning routine checklist
A morning routine checklist is just what it sounds like, a list that you can use each morning to start your day effectively. This can look like a long list of things to do each morning. Or even something simple like “spent 5 minutes making a list of things I am grateful for”. Either way, I encourage you to create a morning routine checklist for yourself and try using it daily.
What is a morning routine
A morning routine is the list of things that you do every day to get your day started. For most, this looks like: wake up, get dressed, get coffee, start working. Even if you haven’t intentionally thought about your morning routine, you have one and maybe just haven’t thought about it before.
Why a morning routine is important
A morning routine is important for many reasons. Sharing below some great ways explaining how a morning routine is important & beneficial to your day.
Fosters good habits
Being consistent with a morning routine is a great way to foster good habits. For example, if you are not a morning person but aspire to be, making getting up 30 minutes earlier than you used to as part of your morning routine would consistently be beneficial & make you more of a morning person. Another great example is eating breakfast as a part of your morning routine.
Promotes a sense of control
Having a morning routine gives you a sense of control of your day. Even if you have a hectic day ahead of you, having some constancy when you first wake up gives you a sense of control and calmness, as you already know what your routine is. Starting your internal clock with a morning routine is something you can control and can help reduce stress.
Enhances productivity
A morning routine enhances productivity by giving your brain something productive to “think about” when you first wake up. Having a routine helps to not hit the snooze button on days you don’t want to get out of bed, since you know ahead of time that you have things to do.
How to make a morning routine
To create a morning routine, start by listing out things that you do, or want to start doing, each day when you wake up. I’ve listed below some great things to incorporate into a morning routine:
- Eat Breakfast
- Drink a glass of water
- Create must do list
- Get dressed
- Spend 5 minutes of gratitude
Once your morning routine checklist is created, be sure to write it down somehow. And put in in a place you will see it. For some, this might look like creating a quick note in the notes section of your phone that can be referenced every morning. For others, this might be typing & printing something out that you can hang on the wall somewhere that you will always see it. Like in your bathroom or near your bedside table.
My favorite morning routine musts
Some of my favorite morning routine musts include trying to wake up early, reading a bible verse or passage to start my day off with a positive mindset, drinking a glass of water and taking a shower. One thing that has helped me so much is planning my outfits the day before which removes one more that I have to do in the mornings. P.S- I recently created a blog post sharing ideas on how to wear denim mom shorts here!
Morning routine checklists for kids
Creating a morning routine for kids is a great way to help your little one start the day off in the right way too! Kids morning routines can be very simple, with only a few necessary things such as “brush teeth”, “get dressed” and “eat breakfast”. Having a simple and easy routine for a kid to follow in the morning helps them get used to a morning schedule and get them in the habit of doing daily simple tasks each day.
Benefits of a morning routine
The benefits of having a morning routine are many! Not only is it easier to start the day organized, but also allows for more of a stress free start to your day, which is always beneficial! Benefits of a morning routine include:
Increased productivity and focus
Creating a routine for the start of your day helps you to prioritize tasks
