5 easy way to declutter your house this January

With the beginning of the year in full effect, there is one thing I know that is on many peoples minds…spring cleaning! I love purging + cleaning my space in January, I always feel like it’s a great start to the year and gets me “feeling organized” for the next 12 months. Sharing here 5 easy ways to declutter your house too!

Do a little bit each day

it can be very overwhelming to feel like you have to declutter your entire house! I always eliminate the pressure off of myself by doing a little bit each day. I don’t try to get it all done on a weekend (impossible!) for example, and instead spread it over a few weeks, spending some time (30 min-1 hour) each day to go through stuff. This way- I don’t feel rushed and can make sure I’m really accomplishing what I want to.

Use containers

I am a fan of containers! Ryan laughs at me, but I put everything in a container. I feel more organized and am able to know what I own when I can see it all together, and containers really help. I use them in my kitchen under the sink + cabinets, in my bedroom in drawers, bathrooms under cabinets and just about everywhere! I don’t spend a lot on them and mostly get them from Target & Amazon, but they work great to help me be decluttered.

Do one room at a time

Okay this goes along with tip #1 of doing a little bit at a time, but it’s also a big helper to me so I thought it needed its own space. Doing one room at a time has been the most efficient way I’ve learned throughout the years to declutter. This helps me to make sure a room is 100% done before I move on, plus it’s mentally easier to focus on one room vs worrying about my entire house at the same time! I normally switch off between big spaces + small spaces (start with a bedroom, go to small closet, then back to a bigger space like the kitchen) to give myself even more time to really declutter.

Get rid of things you don’t use (donate them!)

This one is a hard one for me, because I really love my stuff BUT I always feel much better when I gt rid of stuff I don’t need or use. I don’t mean putting it in my “I’m going to use it one day” pile either..I mean truly getting rid of it. What makes me feel even more better too is when I donate things that I’m giving away. That way- I can be happy knowing that they are going to someone or even a family who really needs them.

Take before + after pictures

This might feel a little silly, but it’s really easy to forget what your space looks like once its clean. Taking a before + after photo lets you get excited about all the progress that you made and might even inspire you to make sure your newly cleaned space stays…clean!

What are things that you do to declutter? I would love to know in the comments. Also-shared some amazon home organization finds earlier this month, check them out here!
