Job Interview Tips. Interviewing for a New Job? These tips will help!

Over the last few months, I was transitioning jobs. I have heard the words “great migration” over & over and it’s so true….people are leaving jobs right now to find something better. It is amazing seeing so many people follow their passions whether it’s leaving their current job to pursue their entrepreneurship dreams or leaving their current job for a better work/life balance. Nonetheless, it makes on thing evident = the “ potential employee” pool is very large, which might make landing you “dream job” seem harder. With this being said, I wanted to share some things that have helped me recently land my literal dream job! I am for sure no career coach or anything like that, but I do think the below job interview tips are great to know & keep in mind when interviewing for a position that you are really interested in.

Be Yourself

It is so easy to get wrapped up into sounding like the”perfect” candidate that you forget to be yourself! Focusing on answering all the questions in the right way is stressful, so be sure to truly be yourself too while interviewing. I have always been firm believe that an interview is not only for the company to see if you are a good fit for them, but also for the candidate to see if the company is aligned with their personal goals & wants too! Interviewing is a two way streak, so making sure that the company and potential team members are a good fit is always important.

Research the company beforehand

I thought this was a known thing, but I have learned that it is not! Researching the company you are interviewing with beforehand allows you as the candidate to learn more about the company, but also shows your potential future employer that you put the work in to understand more about the company, showing that you’re interested. This also gives you another chance to make sure that the company that you are interviewing with is a good fit for you personally!

Talk about $$

Money has been a taboo subject for a long time & I am happy that that is finally changing. A lot of jobs have even recently started putting the salary in the description, which is so good! Asking about money up front might be scary, but it is good to have expectations laid down and in the open when interviewing for a job. At the end of the day, you are speaking to your skill sets and how they could help the company, so talking about your financial reward for doing so should be no different. I also would recommend doing your own research in regards to salary so you know what the national average is in order to ensure you would potentially be compensated correctly in correlation to your experience level & job level.

Ask questions

My favorite part of an interview is at the very end when you are asked if you “have any questions”. Secret= I always do! I always make sure to ask a few company specific questions of course, but do have some generic interview questions that I have asked in the past that I think are important. They are below:

What is the company culture like?

What are some challenges you see with this position?

What are some top expectations of someone in this position?

How does this company handle a strong work/life balance?

I hope these will help you land an opportunity that could possibly be a perfect fit!

XO,

B
